COMPETITION LEVEL PHILOSOPHY
Freshmen
This is to be a formative year of learning the base fundamentals of the game
and of our program. With our freshman schedule, we place a great amount of
importance on playing time. We want to win every game we play, but also place
emphasis on team building and hard work. Between one’s freshman and senior
years, young men go through a considerable amount of physical change. With this
in mind, we will work to develop position specific skills, but we will
emphasize fundamentals and building a “tough” football player as opposed to
developing a great freshman quarterback. Although some freshman may suit up for
the varsity game and/or play junior varsity games, most will only play freshman
football. This lends itself as a year to develop class identity as great senior
classes are established during their freshman year. Freshman games are played
on Mondays before the Junior Varsity game.
JUNIOR VARSITY
This level will be used strictly as a playing time for those juniors and
sophomores not ready to start on Friday nights. The emphasis will be training
for varsity competition first and then to win games. Again, the purpose is to
increase opportunities for players to learn, and they can only truly learn
through competition. Again, JV is reserved mostly for juniors and sophomores
who do not play varsity, and then several frehsman will fill in any position
needs. Most JV games are played on Mondays following Freshman games.
VARSITY
Win! Emphasis here is to play at the highest level of competition possible to
win games and championships! Although we are committed to our seniors, we will
always put the players on the field on Friday nights who will most benefit our
program, no matter what grade level they are. As a rule, varsity games will be
played on Friday nights [occasionally Thursday nights].
